Oral cancer has emerged as an alarming public health problem with increasing incidence and mortality rates all over the world. The implementation of newer screening and early detection approaches are of utmost importance which could reduce the morbidity and mortality associated with this disease. Sensitive and specific biomarkers for oral cancer are likely to be most effective for screening, diagnosis, and staging and follow-up for this dreaded and lethal malignancy.

A study on urinary staphylococci as uropathogens at a tertiary care hospital

Background: Staphylococci as a cause of UTI is not uncommon. But studies related to their association with UTI and their resistance patterns are limited.Therefore this study was undertaken to know the rate of isolation of urinary staphylococci with special reference to methicillin resistant strains. Material & Methods: Urine samples collected from clinically suspected UTI cases were processed and those samples which yielded staphylococci were included in the study. Their antibiogram was determined by Kirby-Bauer disc diffusion method .

Bonded retainers offer advantages compared to conventional removable retainers in that they are invisible from the front, require less patient cooperation, and provide a long-term or even permanent retention.

A review of probiotics in treating oral microbial infections

Probiotics are live microorganisms thought to be beneficial to the host organism with proven health benefits. Traditionally, probiotics have been associated with gut health, and most clinical interest has been focused on their use for prevention or treatment of gastrointestinal infections and diseases. However during the last decade several investigators have also suggested the use of probiotics for oral health purposes. This article discusses about the significance of probiotic therapy as a means to fight common dental conditions.

Impact of shift work schedules on levels of stress, anxiety and work life balance in bpo employees

BPO industry demands frequent shift changes and odd working hours. BPO employees are prone to work related stress as they have to work in odd hours and frequent shift changes in this profession lead to increased physical and mental health problems. This study has evaluated anxiety, stress and work life balance of BPO employees working in different shifts. Sample comprised of 250 employees with an average age of 34.65 years and standard deviation 6.74 years divided into general shift (n=57), second shift (n=53), night shift (n=62) and rotating shift (n=78).

Biomaterials for alveolar socket preservation

Tooth loss has a direct impact on quality of life by impairing the ability to masticate, speak, and, in some instances, socialize. Bone resorption following extraction presents as a significant problem in restorative and implant dentistry. Socket preservation is a technique by which the amount of bone resorption is limited. This article discusses the scientific literature examining the healing post-extraction and socket preserving techniques.

Effectiveness of kinematic facebow in enhancing occlusal equilibration in fixed restorative treatment- A systematic review

Background: Location of hinge axis and its precise transfer to the articulator where the occlusal rehabilitation is planned is a vital therapeutic protocol in fixed prosthodontics. However, there is an uncertainty regarding the effectiveness of the arbitrary or true hinge axis transfer influencing the therapeutic outcome of occlusal harmony provided by restorations, whichneeds to be investigated further in detail. Aim: To evaluate occlusal discrepancies arising after mounting with arbitrary and kinematic facebows in fixed restorations.
