A retrospective study on peripheral neurectomy for idiopathic trigeminal neuralgia

Aim: To evaluate the data of the patients of idiopathic trigeminal neuralgia, treated with peripheral neurectomy,to evaluate the results obtained by this procedure and their recurrences. Materials and Methods: We studied 40 Patients reporting to our hospitals with persistent pain after conservative treatment or intolerance to carbamazepine therapy were selected for neurectomy. The branch of nerve involved was identified according to the site of pain and confirmed with diagnostic block with 2% Lignocaine. The follow-up period ranged from 1 to 4 years.

Cone-beam computed tomography study of morphometric evaluation of pterygoidhamulus

Aim: The aim of the study was morphometricevaluation of pterygoidhamulus using CBCT. Material and Methods: CBCT images of 40males and 40females with age >20years were evaluated. The length, width, inclinationandincidence of shape of PH was evaluatedwith respect to side and gender.Independent t-test was used for statistical analysis.

A study on paramedian submental intubation in maxillofacial trauma patients

Aim: This study was carried out to assess the versatility of the submental intubation in the airway management of maxillofacial trauma patients. Materials and Methods: 20 patients with facial trauma were intubated with submental intubation for treatment of maxillofacial fractures at our center. Results: The patients ranged in age from 18 to 34 years. No complications due to submental intubation such as infection, hypertrophic scarring, bleeding, ranula formation, orocutaneous fistula, lingual nerve injury and hematoma were observed following submental intubation.

Effect of muscle energy technique in pain and lower limb functional activity in subjects having planter fasciitis- A randomized control trial

Question: Is the Muscle Energy Technique being effective in pain and lower limb functional activity in subjects having planter fasciitis? Design: Randomized control trial. Participants: 30 subjects with the clinical diagnosis of chronic plantar fasciitis were randomly allocated by coin method into two study groups. Intervention: Group A (control) 15 patients was given therapeutic ultrasound, foot intrinsic muscles strengthening exercises, plantar fascia stretching exercises and Group B(experimental) 15 patients was given conventional treatment as group an added MET for 10 consecutive days.

Submental flap for reconstruction of carcinoma of tongue: Report of a case

The submental island flap (SIF) is a new alternative in the reconstruction of various head and neck defects. The skin characteristics make the submental region an available flap site for facial and intraoral reconstructions. The flap is simple and reliable, can be used in small to medium defects where complete oncological clearance is assured. Here we present a case of squamous cell carcinoma involving lateral border of tongue treated with wide excision and reconstruction with submental flap

Prosthodontic management of a case of hypohydrotic ectodermal dysplasia: a case report and review

Ectodermal dysplasia (ED) is a hereditary disorder characterized by abnormal development of certain tissues and structures of ectodermal origin, like the sweat glands, scalp hair, nails, skin pigmentation, and craniofacial structures. Orofacial characteristics of this syndrome include anodontia or hypodontia, hypoplastic conical teeth, underdevelopment of the alveolar ridges, frontal bossing, a depressed nasal bridge, protuberant lips, and hypotrichosis.

Validity and reliability of cone beam computed tomographyfor assessing mesial root canal type in mandibular first molars

Background: Knowledge of root canal anatomy is essential for the success of endodontic treatment. The introduction of Conebeam computed tomography (CBCT) to dentistry has led to increase the accuracy of internal anatomy assessment. The aim of this study was to evaluate the validity and reliability of CBCT imaging technique to assessing mesial root canal type in mandibular first molars. Material and methods: 64 mandibular first molars were chosen and fixed in a base plaster model mixed with Sawdust then scanned by CBCT.

Neisseria gonorrhoeae, chlamydia trachomatis, ureaplasma urealyticum, mycoplasma hominis and mycoplasma genitalium

The identification of sexually transmitted pathogens by rapid and sensitive techniques is of interest due to the spread routes including the risks of acquisition and transmission. Our aim was to develop multiplex real-time PCR assays to simultaneously detect M. hominis, M. genitalium, U. urealyticum, N. gonorrhoeae, and C. trachomatis. Clinical samples from female patients with presumptive diagnosis of infection with these bacteria were examined. Two multiplex real-time PCRs were developed: MI: N. gonorrhoeae, C. trachomatis, U. urealyticum; MII: M. hominis, M. genitalium, U. urealyticum.

What is the underlying cause of type ii diabetes? – Are cells protecting themselves against the reactivity ofglucose?

Through the last couple of thousand years, human food sources and availability have changed tremendously. Moving from a diet of hunter gathers, consisting of nuts, fruits, tubers and meat, to the farmers’ diet of grains, milk, meat to this and last century, where among other processed foods there is the unlimited availability of refined sugar. This change in diet has been proposed as being the underlying reason for the dramatic increase in the prevalence of type II diabetes that we are observing world-wide in our time world health organization 2016.

Effect of dry heat on episiotomy wound healing and level of pain among post natal mothers

Enhancing healing of episiotomy wound is one of the major concerns after a normal delivery. The study aimed to identify the effectiveness of dry heat on reducing pain and wound healing .With use of universal pain scale and REEDA scale were measured from sample of 20 from experimental and control group on 1st , 3rd and 5th postnatal day. The experimental group had a significant improvement in wound healing and level of pain.
