Background: The studywas conducted to investigate the effect of age and body weight of first lay on egg number and egg weight among four breeds of tortoises in two different ecological zones. A total of sixty (60) tortoises were selected from two distinct ecological zones namely: Freshwater Swamp (Greek tortoise – Testudo graeca, and West African Black Mud tortoise –Pelusioscastaneus) and lowland Rainforest (Marginated tortoise – Testudo marginata and African Spurred tortoise – Centrochelyssulcata) and their external egg quality traits (EEQTs) were assessed.The results indicated that Age at first egg (AFE) and body weight at first egg (BWFE) were significant (P<0.05) affected by egg number (EN) and egg weight (EWT). EWTshowed a similar trend toBWFEin the various genotypes studied.Testudo marginataexhibited the maximumEN and AFE, with Pelusioscastaneus, Testudo graeca, and Centrochlyssulcata showing progressively lower values.BWFE was highest in T.graeca decreasing through C.sulcata, and T.marginata, toP.castaneus. Highest egg quality traits values were recorded in T.marginata, followed in descending order by T. graeca, C.sulcata and P.castaneus. These results illustrate the, potential of T. marginata for egg production and quality enhancement. In conclusion, the evidence demonstrates superior egg laying performance and quality traits in this humid region, highlighting their suitability for micro-livestock production.

Background: Open simple prostatectomy (OSP) remains a valuable surgical option for patients with benign prostatic hyperplasia (BPH) in developing countries, especially patients with significantly enlarged prostate. Uroflowmetry, a non-invasive urodynamic test, plays a key role in both pre-operative assessment and post-operative evaluation of such patients. This study examined the role of uroflowmetry in outcome measure following OSP and explores the clinical implications of these measures. Methods: Fifty patients who had open simple prostatectomy were recruited into the study. Each patient had uroflowmetry (Oakfield Flowmate 2, 2003). The Qmax in each patient was noted and documented. Results: 33 of the 50 patients (66%) studied were on urethral catheter pre-operatively. The mean preoperative Qmax of patients that were not on catheter pre-operatively was 6.4 ± 1.6 ml/s. Post-operatively, there was a marked improvement in uroflowmetry parameters: mean Qmax increased to 22.52 ± 5.16 mls/s (p < 0.001). The mean PVR reduced from 160 mls pre-operatively to 20 mls post-operatively. Conclusion: Open simple prostatectomy significantly enhances uroflowmetry outcomes in patients with benign prostatic hyperplasia, validating its role in the objective outcome measure following OSP.

This study evaluates the level of methodological transparency and potential reproducibility in patent-based technological prospecting dissertations developed within the Professional Graduate Program in Intellectual Property and Technology Transfer for Innovation (PROFNIT). A Systematic Literature Review (SLR) was conducted following the PRISMA 2020 guidelines, resulting in the analysis of 23 dissertations defended between 2016 and 2026. The study applied an adapted methodological compliance checklist based on international standards for patent landscape studies. The results revealed high levels of conformity regarding the definition of databases, search strategies, analytical methods, and presentation of quantitative findings. The dissertations demonstrated strong alignment with internationally recognized practices in technological intelligence and patent analysis, particularly through the use of IPC and CPC classifications. However, important weaknesses were identified concerning dataset sharing, documentation transparency, and discussion of methodological limitations. Only a minority of the studies provided complete access to the analyzed patent corpus, limiting auditability and reproducibility. The findings indicate that PROFNIT has achieved significant operational maturity in technological prospecting studies, although challenges remain regarding open science practices and methodological standardization. The study contributes to discussions on transparency, scientific reliability, and quality standards in patent landscape research.

Cette recherche examine l’impact des choix et de l’utilisation des manuels de mathématiques par les enseignants de 7e et 8e d’éducation de base en République Démocratique du Congo sur l’enseignement et l’apprentissage. L’hypothèse posée suggérait que ces choix étaient influencés par la disponibilité des manuels, leur adéquation avec le programme scolaire et les préférences personnelles des enseignants. Les résultats confirment que la majorité des enseignants s’appuient sur des manuels fournis par l’école, menant à une approche pédagogique livresque qui limite l’innovation. La méthode exploratoire utilisée, avec un échantillonnage accidentel non probabiliste, a permis d’obtenir des données significatives sur les pratiques actuelles. Pour améliorer l’enseignement des mathématiques, plusieurs recommandations sont proposées, telles que la révision des manuels scolaires pour mieux répondre aux besoins pédagogiques contemporains, la formation continue des enseignants sur l’utilisation efficace des ressources, la diversification des outils pédagogiques, et l’établissement de mécanismes de feedback. En adoptant ces mesures, il est possible d’améliorer la qualité de l’enseignement des mathématiques et de renforcer les compétences des élèves dans cette discipline essentielle.
