Gender-based violence in buchi emecheta’s the joys of motherhood

This paper highlights men’s violence against women in Buchi Emecheta’s The Joys of Motherhood. The fundamental idea around which this paper evolves is women’s passive position in the face of men’s chauvinism. Often adhering to African values and codes, most African women content themselves with traditional roles of homemaking and child bearing and are still discriminated against in every society. They are wrongfully denied access to the basic human need including the decision making power among other things.

Attitude towards breastfeeding among rural women

Attitudes and confidence among women can predict the duration of exclusive breastfeeding. The longer duration of breastfeeding, the more advantages there are for both mother and child. The aim of this study was to explore how the attitudes and the confidence were among breastfeeding mothers, impart scientific information and techniques of breastfeeding practices to the women and evaluate the impact of the programme. The total sample size of the study was 500 women were drawn from five blocks of Coimbatore district.

NaYbF4@NaYF4 as near infrared light excited inorganic optical sensors for oxygen-undisturbed temperature detecting

The luminescence and temperature response characteristics of NaYF4 containing 15% NaYBF4 were investigated. NaYbF4@NaYF4 has good thermal stability and excellent response characteristics in the temperature in the range from 300 to 500 K, which significantly increases the upper limit of temperature detection of ytterbium temperature sensor. A self-calibration relationship between the reciprocal of temperature and the natural logarithm ratio of luminescent intensity has been discovered.

Effect of agro processing wastes on the production and characteristics of the black soldier fly hermetia illucens l.

Background: Insects such as black soldier fly, Hermetia illucens are being considered as a new protein source for animal feed. Integrated development of innovative technologies for insect production using locally available agro-industrial wastes is necessary at present. Objective: To investigate the use of locally available agro-processing wastes namely palm kernel cake, maize bran, sorghum spent grain, soya bean waste and their combinations for maggots production. Method: Randomized complete blocs design with four repetitions was used.

Management of trigeminal neuralgia through mashabaladi pachana kashaya nasya: a review

Trigeminal neuralgia is a kind of neuropathic pain which is associated with nerve injury or nerve lesion. It is considered as the most excruciatingly painful condition known to mankind. Due to the sharp, intense and stabbing nature of pain, sufferers called it as ‘suicide disease’. This is a chronic condition of pain that affects some important cranial nerves which are the most widely distributed nerves in the head. The annual incidence for women is approximately 5.9 cases per 100,000 women; for men, it is approximately 3.4 cases per 100,000 men.

Correlation between scapular muscle endurance and core muscle endurance in subject with chronic shoulder pain

Background:Scapular muscle endurance and core endurance reportedly may influence shoulder injury risk. Hence, the present study aimed to analyze the difference between healthy subjects and those with chronic shoulder pain with regard to scapular endurance, core endurance and pain level. Additionally to explore the relationship between measures of scapular endurance, core endurance and pain level. Subjects: Sixty subject of both sexes with mean age 25.66 ± 2.30 years were participated in this study.

Investigation of serum lipid concentration in miceplaced on experimental diet

Background: Lipid abnormalities such as low levels of high-density lipoprotein cholesterol (HDL- C), levels of low-density lipoprotein cholesterol (LDL-C) and elevated triglycerides are linked to an increased risk of chronic heart disease (CHD) and cardiovascular events which act as predictors of the disease process since excessive intake of cholesterol is likely to lead to hyperlipidaemia. Method: A total of forty (male and female) mice aged between 2 and 12 months were used.

Effects of drugs and field stimulation on rat anococcygeus smooth muscle

Background and Purpose: The anococcygeus muscle has a classically sympathetic noradrenaline-mediated motor innervation. Owing to its physiological importance, not much work has been done in the study of its muscular response to certain drugs and chemical mediators. The aim of the experiment was to examine the response of rat anococcygeus muscle to selected drugs and field stimulation. Experimental Approach: Anococcygeus smooth muscle was isolated from adult male rat.

Seasonal variation of mycoflora associated with diseased and healthy leaves of rapeseed –mustard varieties under organic farming system in Manipur

The seasonal occurrences of fungi were varied in different months starting from December to March in both the years (rabi 2014-15 and 2015-16). In the infected plant (leaves) the pooled number of seasonal mycoflora was found to be highest in March (22.50 cfug-1 leaf x 10) and the lowest in December (15.00 cfug-1 leaf x 10). In healthy plant the highest occurrence of mycoflora was found in March (16.50 cfug-1 leaf x 10) and the lowest in January (11.50 cfug-1 leaf x 10).

Factors affecting local tomato variety preferences and price acceptance in Benin Republic

Background: Tomato is the most consumed vegetable in Africa as in most of the world. It isconsumed by millions of people across the continent’s diverse religious, ethnic and social groups.
