The objective of the present work was the synthesis of 2- (2, 3, 4, and 5 substituted phenyl) 3-hydroxy-4H-Chromen-4-one and evaluation of in-vitro antimicrobial activity. Based on this a new series of compound had been planned to synthesize by reacting 2-hydroxy acetophenone and various aromatic aldehydes in the presence of potassium hydroxide, methanol and 30% hydrogen peroxide. The synthesized compounds were characterized by IR, NMR, and Mass spectroscopy. The in-vitro antimicrobial profile of newly synthesized compounds were carried out by using agar diffusion method using bacterial cultures of Staphylococcus aureus (ATCC 9144) and Escherichia coli (ATCC 25922) and fungal culture of Aspergillus niger (ATCC 9029). By observing it was found that most of the synthesized compounds executed moderate to good antimicrobial activity against the tested micro-organisms. The most of the synthesized compounds were active against all the tested micro-organisms for antimicrobial activity with an MIC range of 15-40µg/ml. The MIC values for the synthesized compounds were found to be 4B (MIC of 15 µg / ml), 4J(MIC of 16 µg / ml), and 4E (MIC of 17) against Staphylococcus aureus (ATCC 9144) and 4B (MIC of 16 µg / ml), 4J (MIC of 19 µg / ml), and 4E (MIC of 18) against Escherichia coli (ATCC 25922) and 4A (MIC of 16 µg / ml), 4C (MIC of 19 µg / ml), and 4E MIC of 18 µg / ml) against Aspergillus niger (ATCC9029).

This study examined the issues of lobbying and advocacy for improved library development and services in Anambra state, Nigeria. It investigated the involvement of the librarians and their willingness to be trained on the strategies of lobbying and advocacy. It also identified the challenges that affect lobbying and advocacy. The descriptive survey research design was adopted using designed questionnaire for data collection. The members of Nigerian Library Association, Anambra State Chapter working in the library schools and other libraries in the state constituted the population of the study. The data was analyzed using descriptive statistics of frequency counts and mean. The study found total non-involvement of librarians in lobbying program, although, some librarians are engaged in advocacy activities. They also indicated their willingness for capacity building. Also revealed was the identification of infrastructure, budget allocation, positive legislation for library development and services as the areas that should be on priority list. It was found out among other things that time, expenses, fatigue, impede effective lobbying and advocacy. The study recommended that Nigerian Library Association should engage all sectors of libraries in articulating the best practices and areas that need immediate lobbying and advocacy.

A prospective study to observe thehistopathological findings in Aluminium PhosphidePoisoning was undertaken on 70 autopsy cases conducted at S. S. Medical College, Rewaand associated Gandhi Memorial Hospital. Aluminium Phosphide poisoning hasbecome the commonest poisoning in central India over the last few years. Aluminium Phosphide is a solid fumigant bulk grain preservative and is available in the market under various trade names like Celphos, Quickphos, Phostoxin, Phostek, Gastoxin, Zedesa, Li Fumesets. It is marketed either in Tablet or pellet form. Mortality is high as mechanism of action is not clearly understood and no specific antidote is available against this poison. Samples of tissues fromliver, lungs, kidneys and spleen were preserved in 10% Formal Saline, processed for histopathology, stained by HaematoxylinandEosin method and studied microscopically. Observations made in similar previous studies are compared with findings of present study and discussed.

Some Schiff base complexes of Co (II), Ni (II) and Cu (II) containing heterocyclic amines has been prepared. The complexes were isolated from the reaction in solid forms and characterized by IR, 1H NMR, UV- Vis., and some physical measurements. The observed values confirmed that the complexes have tetrahedral/square planar geometry. The complexes have been found to have moderate to strong antimicrobial, antifungal and cytotoxic activity.

Conventional fixed partial dentures, implant supported Fixed Partial Dentures (FDPs) and removable partial dentures are the most common treatment modalities for the aesthetic and functional rehabilitation of partially edentulous patients. Hard and soft tissue undercuts are frequently encountered in the fabrication of prosthesis in partially as well as completely edentulous arches. Removable cast partial dentures are used as definitive removable prostheses when indicated, but location of clasps may affect aesthetics. So, when patient is concerned about aesthetics, flexible partial dentures which is aesthetically superior to flipper and cast partial dentures, may be considered. This article is an effort to review the various commercially available flexible denture base materials and highlights their indications and special instructions in wearing and maintenance of the same.

Lipstick, is a face-care cosmetic that commands a unique market as it is one of the most affordable cosmetic products available with as many as 80% of women using it regularly. Lipsticks need not be sterile and may contain low levels of microbial load during or prior to use. Lipsticks are often inadvertently consumed by the users and hence it is imperative that the health regulators have a microscopic look at the ingredients as well as the microbial flora (if any) in the lipsticks. This study was performed to determine the bacterial load in terms of colony forming units in addition to the type and concentration of a paraben preservatives used in lipsticks. Twelve brands of lipsticks were selected for the study of which, four were taken from the Indian market (unused samples), four (Multinational brands) used for over a year and four (multinational brands) used for over two years. The bacteria in these samples were isolated and identified by 16s rDNA sequencing and the amount of preservatives quantified by HPLC (High Performance Liquid Chromatography). Our results indicated that all the products were contaminated to varying degrees depending on their usage. Besides the skin normal flora Staphylococci, gram negative organisms of Pseudomonas, Proteus, Morganella, Providencia species also featured prominent among the isolates. The HPLC data obtained indicated the presence of parabens at a concentration of 2740 ppm and 6960 ppm which is higher than 100-3000 ppm of parabens as stated by the US-FDA. The work cautions the end user about the quality of lipsticks a widely used cosmetic product.

Aim: Osteoporotic patients require particular attention during implant placement, and bone density has been established as a simple method to assess local bone quality and primary implant stability. This study aimed to examine and significantly correlate the relationship of local bone density volumetric analysis as assessed by the CBCT in a group of osteopenic and osteoporotic patients. Materials and Methods:A total of 30 patients were included in the study. The mandibular Second premolar region was choosen as the site of investigation to prevent Variability in surgical implant placement technique in different locations affecting bone mineral density. Partially edentulous female patients between 51 years and 60 years of age who were scheduled to receive implant placement were recruited for the study. Ultrasound bone densitometer was used in the study to divide the three groups (Group I-Normal patients), (Group II-Osteopenic patients), (Group III-Osteoporotic patients). CBCT (Master Series 3D Dental Imaging) was used for preoperative evaluation of the jaws for each patient.Materialise's Interactive Medical Image Control System (MIMICS) was used to process stacks of 2D images from CBCT. 3-matic software was used to combine CAD tools with pre-processing (meshing) capabilities like the anatomical data coming from the segmentation of medical images (from Mimics). All data were collected and analyzed using SPSS 16.0 for windows version. Student T Test and One way ANOVA were calculated between groups to determine the difference in bone mineral densities. Results: A total of 30 females participated in the the study. The mean bone density for group I, group II, group III was 60364.36 mm3, 51789.65 mm3, 40468.62 mm3 respectively (Table 1,2,3). The difference in mean bone density in all three groups were statistically significant (p<0.05). (Table 4). Conclusions: The results of this study suggest that bone density values (as measured in mm3) obtained from preoperative cone beam computed tomography (CBCT) examination may be an objective technique for preoperative evaluation of bone density. This tool when combined with MIMICS software can serve as diagnostic tool for predicting implant success, thus providing the implant surgeon with an objective assessment of bone density, especially were poor bone quality is suspected.

Cordyceps is an entomophagous fungus belonging to class ascomycetes and family Clavicipitaceae of the order Hypocreales and are known to parasitize the larvae, pupae or adults of insects. Of the 300 species reported, so far no other species is considered as medicinally important and costly as Cordyceps sinensis (Berk.) Sacc.. The fungus Cordyceps sinensis (Berk.) Sacc.. is native of high Himalayan mountains in Tibet, Nepal, India and Bhutan, at an altitude ranging from 3,000 to 5,000 m and are commonly known as ‘yartsa-gunbu’ in Tibet and as ‘Keera ghas’ or ‘Keera jhar’ (insect herb) in Indian mountains. In nature, it is parasitic on the larvae of a small moth, (Hepialus armoricanus family Hepialidae, order Lepidoptera). The caterpillar fungus Cordyceps sinensis (Berk.)Sacc.is a well-recognized medicinal mushroom. Cordyceps sinensis (Berk.) Sacc., the world’s most efficient and expensive medicinal mushroom and considered as a traditional Chinese medicine having multiple medicinal and pharmacological properties and also used to treat respiratory and immune disorders, pulmonary diseases, renal, liver and cardiovascular diseases, hyposexuality and hyperlipidema. The pharmacological and medicinal significance of Cordyceps sinensis (Berk.) Sacc. mainly due to its bioactive ingredients i.e. Cordycepin,Adenosine, ergosterol etc.

The present study were conducted to ascertain the Impact of Vocational Training programme on Mushroom Cultivation for Self Employment for the establishment of mushroom units and adoption (%) rate of the mushroom farming among the trainees who acquired trainings from the Krishi Vigyan Kendra(Tepla) Ambala, Haryana during 2010-2013. The numbers of mushroom units established were also increased progressively from 6 to 22. The adoption rates were increased from 9.83 per cent to 42.30 per cent. The facilities provided in KVK also plays the remarkable role among the farmers as the total number(493) of diseased samples including diseased mushroom samples analyzed in Basic Plant health Diagnostic Facility/lab in last 4 years and subsequently increased year wise and nowadays, farmers are more responding to the recommendations given to him. The mass media i.e. Newspaper played the significant role in facilitating the information regarding imparting of On-Campus vocational training as per the feedback from the mushroom trainees.

The present study was conducted in the Department of Physiology, Netaji Subhash Chandra Bose Medical College and Hospital, Jabalpur (M.P.) . Median motor and sensory nerves were examined in 60 medical students aged between 17-25 years, having no signs or symptoms of neurological impairment. Using surface and ring electrodes. Different temperature i.e. hot and cold were maintained with the help of water bath and skin temperature measured by using Digital Mercury Thermometer. The result of our study showed that as the temperature is decreased gradually from normal body temperature 370 C to 290C, latency of median motor and sensory nerve increased by 0.18 to 0.24 millisecond/0C.The amplitude of median motor and sensory nerve were found increased on decreasing temperature from normal body temperature 370 C to 290C, but this increase was found statistically insignificant
